Thursday again saw 24 bowlers on the green. Bragging rights for the day went to J Fossey, M Achello and G McDonald. On Saturday, we had 14 players. Winners on the day were E Hamann, P Anderson, P Longford and D Steve. Due to popular demand, starting times for social games on Thursday and Saturday will revert back to 1.30pm. Names in by 1pm. During the week a number of competitio­n games were played. In club triples, D Leach, J Fossey and S Howe defeated G Edgerton, J Morrison and J Walker. G Goes, D Juhas and G McDonald defeated F Catelan, D Irwin and C Smith. In consistenc­y singles, S Howe defeated H Paterson. D Juhas defeated G Edgerton. G Goes defeated A Windsor. Coming Events: November 3-4. Innisfail/South Johnstone Carnival of Bowls. There will be no social bowls on the Saturday. If you are not playing, come down and see some good bowls. November 10-11. The Crema Shield will be contested at a yet-to-be selected venue. The Innisfail team will be S Dallapozza, I Humphries, A Strano and D Juhas. Reserves are R Maguire and S Pagano. Visitors and new bowlers most welcome. Sunday, November 4: Graded pairs, 1.30pm start. J Martinod and R Tsakissiri­s v R Trackson and K Anderson. Plus mixed social. Saturday, November 10 and Sunday, November 11: E Crema Shield at South Johstone. Team is J Azzopardi, G Tsakisssir­is, J Martinod and G Omodei. Wednesday, October 23: Social bowls. Play-off for the Ernie Bucklar Shield continued. Team Denise Charman and Barry Green defeated Len Charman and Dale Pedrola. Team Jean Messina and Alan Hudson defeated Brian Brooks and Karin Rastoll. The winners progress to the next round. A scrounger game was played between Ian Revie, Tony Haydock and Delmo Tarditi. Ian had the highest score, followed by Tony and Delmo. Sunday, October 28: Silkwood closed its doors to attend the opening of the new green at Tully. The opening was a great success with all bowlers testing their abilities on the new green. Congratula­tions Tully, well done. Friday night barefoot bowling is enormous fun so come along and try our game. Bowls are provided, all are welcome. Social results in the last week saw the NewsXpress Edge Hill Tuesday event won by Ray Owens, Rob Wilson and Wayne Hewitt. Trevor Johnston, John Populin and Frank Obah filled second spot. Thirsty Thursday continues to attract newcomers enjoying a genuine, no pressure day as they learn the art from the fun crew in charge. Standouts on the day were Suzanne from Dubbo, Peter Hintzke and Mick O’Halloran. Friday evening’s Scroungers welcomes more participan­ts. Des Aumuller won this week from Pauline Bent. Sunday morning winners were Royston, Phil Buntain and George Atkinson. Second to Mal Gordon, Mike Ireland, Wal Edwards. The money back lucky card went to Jim Duffield’s crew and Norm Kerher was the recipient of next week’s free game. The jackpot was not won and growing quickly. Members draw on Wednesday is at 6pm and at 7pm on Friday evening. Social members are most welcome. And we also had a mixed team play in Ravenshoe on Saturday and two men’s teams play there on Sunday and reports suggest they all enjoyed themselves but didn’t bring any bacon home. Next weekend in Townsville at Suburban Bowls Club November 3 and 4, our Queensland Rep player Sue Brady will be one of three Ladies from the District representi­ng Qld North against Qld South in what is being called the Inaugural Nth/Sth Challenge. The Ladies had a similar event 14 years ago of which Sue was part of but this is the first time men have played in such an event. Terry McAlary and Christine Scott will join Sue from T.F.N.Q.D.L.B.A. and the Tropical Men are Ben Cribbin, Colin Kelly and Ashley Hammond. The North Team is selected from Bundaberg north.
