Water restrictions around corner
CAIRNS residents are running out of time to sprinkle their lawns before water restrictions are enforced.
Copperlode Dam is sitting at a fraction above the 80 per cent capacity mark — the trigger point for Level 1 water restrictions.
A region-wide alert could Min. spend $100. Conditions apply* go out at any moment as the dam level gradually sinks during an unseasonable dry spell for the Far North.
A Cairns Regional Council spokeswoman said authorities were not ready to pull the trigger just yet, but residents would be informed via social media when the inevitable happened.

currently has 22,680 megalitres available from a total 37,100-megalitre capacity, with the water sitting at 2.3m below the spillway.
Some hope of avoiding the sprinkler sanctions still remains, with forecasts of up to 25mm rainfall in parts of the region over the coming days.
