‘More robust’ Tyzone eyes Listed comeback

- JORDAN GERRANS

THE Listed Keith Noud Handicap looms as Far North star Tyzone’s first-up task after a winter spell in southeast Queensland.

The former Roy Chillemitrained five-year-old had his second October barrier trial on Tuesday, winning over 1000m at the Gold Coast under the guidance of experienced hoop Jeff Lloyd.

Tyzone ran second in his first trial on October 2, following a 12-week freshen-up, beaten by just a nose at the same track over the same distance.

Now in the yard of quality Gold Coast trainer Toby Edmonds, his new team were over the moon with the way the former Tolga sprinter trialled earlier this week and are now looking towards the Keith Noud Handicap later this month. The $100,000 1200m Listed race will be run at Doomben on November 17.

Chillemi, who trained a winner at Cairns Jockey Club on Wednesday afternoon, watched his former stable standout trial over the internet and was impressed with what he saw.

“He looks bigger, he has grown as a five-year-old,” Chillemi said.

“He was always a little narrow horse but he has grown into himself.

“Toby said he would trial him then pick a race out for him, we might see him soon.”

The chestnut gelding will return to the track with the outstanding career record of 13 victories from 23 starts.

Meanwhile, the Ryan team from Tolga have big plans for the impressive Polar Blast, who recorded win number three in a row at Cannon Park on Wednesday afternoon.

With Brad Pengelly on board, Polar Blast scored by three lengths in dominant fashion over 1400m.

Previously trained by Gerald Ryan in New South Wales, Polar Blast was once touted as a Group horse but the Tolga team of the Ryan’s will now set him towards the north Queensland Cups next year.

“I have tried him over a mile and I think next season, they would probably go too quick over 1200m in a Cleveland Bay,” stable representative Ronnie Ryan said. “He could win a Newmarket. We will see if he can run more of a trip or keep him at the mile.

“There is no doubt that we will step him up in journey and see how he will go and aim him at the Cups.”

Elsewhere, stewards adjourned an inquiry into the reason for jockey Shohei Kaya being dislodged from Platinum Pulse after passing the winning post in the fourth race on Wednesday at Cairns.

Jockey Kaya who was attended by on-course paramedics, was transported to Cairns Base Hospital for treatment to a suspected rib injury and was released later in the day.
