New hall ready for almost anything

-

A SPRUNG-FLOOR basketball court, kinesiology lab and audio-visual room are part of a new $4.95 million multipurpose hall at Gordonvale State High.

Officially opened by Member for Mulgrave Curtis Pitt last week, it will be also used for sporting and cultural events, as well as assemblies.

“Students and staff will enjoy a number of modern facilities in the new multipurpose hall, which features an impressive stage, change rooms, an audio-visual room along with a well-appointed kitchen and servery area,” Mr Pitt said.

“For the first time, the school will have a dedicated stage for sporting events, performances, assemblies, and a range of school and community events.

“The stage and other areas are all access spaces, to ensure an inclusive and practical facility for the whole school community.”

The hall also includes a new staff room.

Principal Jan Carr said the school community was excited to make use of the new facility.

“Both our physical education and creative arts departments have a long and proud history of being very successful by offering a diverse range of opportunities for all students,” she said.

“Not only will this modern and well-resourced multipurpose hall allow for an enhanced learning environment, (it) will accommodate a wide range of sporting and cultural events, as well as school assemblies.”

Mr Pitt said hall was funded through the Advancing Queensland Schools (AQS) initiative.
