PDR Engineers have relocated to a larger office space in the Cairns CBD on the back of growing confidence in the region and with the capacity to double in size.

Cairns manager Peter De Roma said the Lake St address would also house staff from SMEC.

“SMEC is one of the largest employers of professional engineers in Cairns and it continues to grow its presence in Northern Australia with over 60 professionals in Townsville, Cairns and Darwin contributing to some of the region’s most socially and economically significant projects,” he said.

“We started using SMEC services as a sub-consultant on some of our projects where we didn’t necessarily have the expertise.

“There are plans for several significant projects throughout the region being worked on by our Northern Australian offices including Cairns

“These projects will provide economic opportunities and improved health related infra- structure as well as access to better transport for goods and services.”

PDR Engineers has been operating in Cairns, the Gulf, Cape York and the Torres Strait for the last 19 years.

Mr De Roma said the amount of hotel construction was great for the region but anticipated steady growth.

“Cairns is a tourist mecca as well as a geographic hub meaning there’s always a need for, and potential for, more infrastructure and development,” he said.

“Tourism always benefits from a favourable exchange rate and Cairns is essentially the business epicentre of far north Queensland. Once you head north, there’s a need for our services around the Cape and Torres Strait as well as the local region.”

Mr De Roma said there was always a demand for quality graduate engineers and the business was “always looking for proactive, innovative graduates.
