Cosentino in town for a worthy cause
AUSTRALIA’S most captivating illusionist may be taking to the stage tonight but the real magic will be among the audience.
First in the Cairns Post Club’s 2018/19 event schedule, Cosentino is set to wow more than 200 guests at the Pullman Reef Hotel Casino.
The night will also raise money for the Cairns branch of Integrated Family and Youth Service (IFYS) to help them provide support to the region's foster children and their carers.
IFYS is also tonight’s major sponsor.
Area manager Sally Anne Eakin said funds were given directly to vulnerable kids.
“One of the main events we work towards each year is our Christmas party,” she said. “It is a really good party in a safe space for them all to do something they’re interested in, there is a barbecue and Santa comes.”
Ms Eakin said there was a continuous need for foster carers across the region.
“It doesn’t go away, we need to have different options and a pool of people we can match with the right kids so they are in the suburbs where they need to be and close to the right schools,” she said.
But Cosentino’s realitybending tricks were something Ms Eakin was looking forward to.
“I hope he turns our fake money into real money and doesn’t make me disappear. It will be a really fun night,” she said.
A professional illusionist and escape artist since he was 17, in 2011 Cosentino finished second in Australia’s Got Talent to Jack Vidgen.
Fast forward seven years and the magician has built an international empire.
At 12, Cosentino couldn’t, or wouldn’t, read until he found a book about famed escapologist Houdini.
His award-winning live productions push the boundaries of what’s physically possible, something that will amaze and delight Cairns this evening.
