Dare to try the different

WE get so stuck in our routines, don’t we?

Wake up; breakfast; off to school/work; exercise; chores/ homework; dinner; and bed in that rough order or thereabouts. The weekends are for friends and family, along with a dinner out or maybe a movie of a Saturday night.

I love routines, especially the comfort of their predictability. I think it’s easy to become entrenched within that comfort, though.

So just imagine taking that routine and giving it a good, old snow-globe shake? Amanda Brownhill’s story had the flakes in my snow globe shuffling nervously.

Her family’s trip is what memories are made of and that will certainly leave a more lasting imprint than the blinding blur of everyday life. When she told me of their travel plans, I thought she meant maybe a month or two ... but a year? Incredible.

You can plan for the extreme and pack everything in for a year of freedom on the open road or you can take a look at the time available to you and make it count.

Go away for weekends, have an early breakfast on the beach one morning before the school and work day starts, or go for a walk on the Esplanade followed by dinner one evening after school, rather than the meat and three veg regular at home. Do this and you’ll create a montage of special moments.

Safe and wonderful travels.
