With the 1st revamp of the northern beaches bypass and possibly one of many. How many millions have been wasted on resumed land that is no longer required. Margaret, Cairns

The article ‘Northern towns dirty’, (CP, 17/11) claims Gordonvale is among the most polluted towns in Australia and compares us with Mt Isa. How can this be?! All we have is the sugar mill, which burns bagasse and only operates for 5 months of the year. Cane is cut green and no longer burnt. There is no other industry in the town that could pollute the air. Maybe they climbed to the top of the smoke stack to do their testing! Our air is always clean. Nails, Gordonvale

Great to see the first of the Crystalbrook hotels open and the “Rain Gauge” at Riley close to opening. This building will become one of the most photographed in Cairns with its unique design. Looking forward to staying there when it opens.

Curiosity … We in Cairns contaminate and flush 8 million litres of fresh potable water each day … cleansed that water would be handy on the farms???

Progressive, City (CP, 17/11). Don’t fiddle with history, mate. Hitler was a NationalSocialist. Stalin was a global-socialist. It’s the socialist part that’s the problem. Socialists now hide in plain sight. They call themselves “progressives”.

Cairns Taipans: Want has happened to our D this year. Mike Kelly was defensive player of the year when he played. Needs to instil this in the squad the year, otherwise we are going to 1-27 this season. Come on guys bring your game day.

Listening to men object to abortion is as I would imagine hearing a male encourage a woman to have another hysterectomy.

I was at Glenoma Park last Sunday afternoon and because the bins have been taken away people were throwing empty bottles and cans and rubbish into the creek as they were too lazy to put them in the bin in the carpark. Grow up council. People swim in that creek. I have contacted the health dept and are investigating this problem. Put the bins back. How stupid are you people?
