WHILE some may find online shopping convenient nothing compares to the joy of giving something unique and original sourced from our own backyard.

Megan Card of Crackerbox Palace suggests a piece of tobacciana dating from the late ’60s or a vintage Murano glass lamp or perhaps a working Uncle Sam mechanical money box.

“Everything here is unique. They do all the boring shopping and come to us when they want to find something fun and different,” she said.

For those who enjoy a drink at Christmas you can’t go pass the amazing range of liqueur offered by the Coffee Works.

Shelly Canhan from the Spence St store said “the gift of liquor was the gift that everyone loved to receive”.

There is creamy coco, chocolate and coffee to choose from but the biggest seller was the Black Mountain dark roast coffee blend.

For the teetotallers, Crystal Caves offers natural treasures, of gemstone jewellery and exclusive hand-carved sculptures at the store in Oceania Walk on Lake St.

At the Cairns Art Gallery shop you can find local, natural skincare products by Rohr Remedy and Making Whoopie gift shop on Shields St offers handmade Australian gifts which are offbeat and totally unique plus the Cairns Botanic Gardens shop is a treasure trove of locally-produced gifts.
