Bailey on winning mission

- JORDAN GERRANS

REINSTATED Cairns trainer Alwyn Bailey is hoping he can repay his loyal owners with a couple of winners this afternoon at Townsville’s Cluden Park.

The Cairns Amateurs Cup winning trainer, who is accused of animal cruelty, had his licence reinstated by the Queensland Racing Integrity Commission yesterday morning.

While Bailey (pictured) was banned from training, several of his horses were transferred to the Cannon Park stable of Rhonda Inglis, and they will remain with Inglis for today’s races and Saturday’s Cairns TAB meeting.

Rose Clip, Near the City and Rangerzane are all formerly Bailey trained and will go around at Townsville today, under the guidance of Inglis.

“I will probably take the horses back eventually but we will just make sure everything is cleared,” Bailey said.

“The owners of the horses are sticking with me, which is great. Mario Agius who owned Ranked is supporting me.

“Since all this happened, I have had more owners ring me about potentially training their horses as well.”

Bailey has around 30 horses in his stable, with a number of promising youngsters.

Meanwhile, Racing Queensland yesterday announced that the Cairns greyhound meeting for tonight had been abandoned due to insufficient nominations.
