THURSDAY, November 22 was Bump Up Day for the Catholic schools in Cairns.

On Bump Up Day children from lower levels go up another level to experience what is like in an older year level. Kids from kindergarten come to primary school and Year 6s go to high school. Schools have Bump Up Day so students can see what it is like in the next grade.

Some grades do rotations to different teachers in the same year level and they will have different set tasks for you. The first teacher you get may or may not be your teacher for next year. That teacher will just be showing you how things work in your next grade.

In Year 4 we watched a science video about a balloon car. The people put wheels on a piece of cardboard and put a balloon on it. When they let it go the car moved.

We also did a fun activity where we shared around a fake fruit and got to tell about things we were thankful for. In a writing activity we wrote about what we were thankful for and what stuff we were proud of.

Students in Year 6 wrote about what they thought a good classroom would be like. They also did a race and a knockout game to test their multiplication facts.

Students who moved up to Year 3 wrote a persuasive text. They had to write a letter to Santa to convince him to give them their favourite present.

At the beginning of Bump Up Day many students felt excited and nervous. After it they were happy and grateful.

?? ?? MOVING ON UP: Students Lillian Spralja and Adrian Leighton (Year 5) test out the high desks in Year 6. Far North Catholic school students were able to get a taste of what 2019 will bring when they participated in Bump-Up Day. The program enabled children to go up to the next year level to experience how things work to ensure a smooth transition to the new school year.
