Rapist put in prison
Man attacked victim after luring her to home
A YARRABAH rapist who lured his victim to the Far North and tortured her in a tin shed was reported to police by his mother, a court heard.
Police arrested Thomas William Gyemore, now 39, as he cowered under a bed following his mother’s phone call last December.
Cairns District Court yesterday heard he met the complainant in a southern city and promised her work in his home town.
Gyemore brought the woman to his family home at Yarrabah on December 17 before they walked to a tin shed on the property.
Prosecutor Gelma Meoli said the shed had a double mattress, a dirt floor and various items including eskies and a metal washing machine drum.
She told the court Gyemore forced himself onto the woman and anally raped her.
He continued his attack when he sat her on an Esky and said: “I’ve got to tie you to a tree and kill you.”
Gyemore threw rocks, saucepans and the metal drum at the woman before trying to tie her up.
She fought back and tried to escape.
“She grabbed his testicles and squeezed hard,” Ms Meoli said.
Gyemore punched her in the right eye, knocking her out.
The woman woke up back at the family home as Gyemore tried to disguise her injuries with sunglasses and a T-shirt.
Ms Meoli told the court the woman suffered a fractured wrist, numerous bruises and a loosened tooth.
Gyemore pleaded guilty to rape and torture.
Judge Dean Morzone called the attack “prolonged, purposeful degradation … for your own fulfilment in a sexually violent way”.
He said Gyemore showed a “profound disrespect” for the woman.
“You continued the attack, which was brutal, callous, sustained, controlling and relentless,” he said.
Judge Morzone jailed Gyemore for nine years including 341 days time served.
