Re: customer visitation to city on weekends. I suspect that the heat has lot to do with empty car spaces on the streets. Cairns Central is more alluring with undercover parking and airconditioning, hard to compete with that in this heat. Apart from draping shade sails over our streets I’m not sure how to revitalise city centre while sun is shining. Much livelier in the evenings though in certain parts of city. Carol, Freshwater
Ergon. I wonder if they will use some of the millions of profit to bury lines. No more blackouts. Probably not, government loves the money. Kelly, Manunda

powerful. A week after you published my “Hey Telstra” text, guess what … l got my first paper bill in three months. And they’d bumped my $50 plan to $58. Mmmm … Jenny, Cooktown
Time for new council. Well said, Eugenie Navarre, (CP, 5/12). Yes, we need leaders that can look out of the box, seeing creative options for our unique FNQ beauty, instead of blindly following the usual process and patterns of growth and development that ultimately leads to destroying our relaxed nature based beauty. Tom, Manoora
One would think that politicians understand our taxes should be spent on things to keep humans safe. Obsolete stinger nets do little to keep humans safe from crocodiles and jellyfish. Rock lagoons in Darwin, Townsville and Yeppoon do this, for humans who pay heaps of rates and axes and cannot afford backyard swimming pools, rather than stupid new casinos or football stadiums. Rex, Edmonton
The sand goes away and the sand comes back. Last attempt to put the sand back they used river sand. This killed the pipis and left a coating of silt. CRC, leave Holloways Beach alone. David, Holloways Beach
If the council wanted to close the Esplanade off, why didn’t it do that instead of wasting money turning Shields St into a ghost town? Andrew, Cairns
