Artists invited

SKYTRANS and the Cairns Indigenous Art Fair (CIAF) are inviting Queensland based Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists to submit a 2D work in any medium for the Skytrans Uniform Design Competitio­n. The winning artwork will be incorporat­ed into a newly designed Skytrans uniform. The winning artist will also receive a cash prize and a double pass to the CIAF opening night, including return flights to Cairns from anywhere on the Skytrans network. Boat ramp works

AURUKUN Shire Council has announced that Bryant Qld has been moving forward with the boat ramp works. The $500,000 project is funded through the Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangemen­ts. Constructe­d in 2014, the council facility is used for all fishing boats and the weekly freight barge, as well as being a popular sunset viewing spot.

Bridge repairs

LONG-awaited repairs to Jensen’s Crossing Bridge within the Cook Shire is set to kick off after suitable timber was finally been sourced by a new supplier. The timber is expected to arrive in the New Year and the repairs will be a priority project when council’s work crews begin in 2019. Cook Shire Council says it appreciate­s the residents in the area for their patience as it took much longer than expected to source suitable timber.

Health scholarshi­p

A SCHOLARSHI­P is up for grabs for Cape York students who will be studying health at university in 2019. Applicatio­ns for the Bernie Singleton Scholarshi­p are now open. Successful applicants can benefit from financial support of up to $7500 over three years, allocated at up to $2500 annually. Go to www.apunipima.org.au
