Zoustyle for spell

- MARK OBERHARDT

THE owners of star Brisbane three-year-old Zoustyle will pass up the chance to collect a $500,000 bonus with the gelding to be spelled ahead of a likely winter campaign.

Zoustyle made it five wins from five starts when he won the Listed Gold Edition Plate at Doomben on Saturday.

It put him in line for a $500,000 bonus if he won the Group Two Vo Rogue Plate on December 29.

He had earlier won the first leg of the Brisbane summer three-year-old triple crown, the Winning Rupert Stakes.

Trainer Tony Gollan says there are no problems with Zoustyle, with the decision to spell him made in the best interests of his long-term career.

Gollan will still have a strong hand in the Vo Rogue with Outback Barbie, second to Zoustyle on Saturday.

She is favourite for the $2 million Magic Millions Guineas (1400m) at the Gold Coast on January 12.

Meanwhile, Chris Munce is using his experience riding in some of Australia’s biggest staying races to help win the inaugural Eagle Way Stayers Series Final.

He has talented filly Ceol Na Mara in the final to be run over 2200m at Eagle Farm on Saturday.

Munce, who is now a leading Brisbane trainer, was among the instigators of the series aimed at identifying three year old Stayers in Queensland.

The series is named after Eagle Way, who won the Queensland Derby in 2016 before going to glory in Hong Kong.
