Taipans may just claim David and Goliath battle

- WITH CAMERON TRAGARDH

ALL hail the Sydney Kings.

The men from the Harbour City are the league’s hottest team, off the back of the four game win streak.

But, funnily enough, this could be the Snakes’ best chance at a win in some time.

The past two weeks Cairns have faced sixth and seventh team on the NBL ladder, respectively.

But, both of those sides are still very much in the playoff hunt, and we’re desperate. Sydney are in a much different position.

They sit second on the ladder, and have just beaten league leaders Perth in their own building. It would be easy for Sydney to look past this game against the lowly Taipans, and it could be an opportunity for Cairns to strike.

But, even a win against the much fancied Kings would just put a Band-Aid over some serious wounds that have come to light this season.

The Far North club’s aura of invincibility at home is a distant memory and the club needs to work hard to find a way for it to come back.

I hope these 11 players and coaches turn it around, but bigger questions need to be asked.

But, for now the focus will be stopping the Kings’ potent line-up.

The Orange Army have done their job, by turning up week in week out.

And, they’ll be hoping the Snakes can pull of a virtual David and Goliath situation. It’s another huge opportunity for this group to defy the odds and do something special.

The home fans haven’t seen a win in 11 months, and they’d love nothing more than to witness an early Christmas miracle.

If the Kings win this game in Cairns it will take them to 10 wins and give them an opportunity to get to 11 wins on Sunday at home to Melbourne and match their win total from all of last season.
