Space Time shoots for stars

- JORDAN GERRANS

AN excellent Cluden Park record has the Tolga-based Ryan stable optimistic Space Time will be able to book his spot in the Magic Millions Country Cup this afternoon.

This afternoon’s seven races at Townsville is the transferred meeting from a fortnight ago that was abandoned due to the deluge from Cyclone Owen.

The Magic Millions Country Cup Qualifier headlines racing this afternoon, with the winner of the 1200m Open Handicap set for a date on the Gold Coast early next year. First-up Space Time comes back from a short break to a track he knows well, winning on six occasions from 12 starts.

“He has not had a run since the Johnstone River but he goes good fresh,” stable representative Ronnie Ryan said.

“I think if we reversed the barriers in the Johnstone River, we beat Windmill Lane, almost, that day.

“I have kept the workload up since then.

“This is the strongest race he has met though but his record is very good at Townsville and hopefully we can keep it going there.”

Purchased at the Adelaide Magic Millions sales, the gelding was previously raced by Lloyd Kennewell in South Australia, before moving to the Far North at the end of 2016.

“We would take him down to the Country Cup if he can win,” Ryan said.

Cairns hoop Shane Pawsey has been booked to ride.

Meanwhile, impressive winner at Cairns last Thursday, Palladian, has his second start in north Queensland in the Benchmark 70 Handicap.
