Interim Roar coach still on tilt over Aloisi
STILL shocked by the gutwrenching departure of his friend John Aloisi, interim Brisbane Roar coach Darren Davies claims he’s yet to decide whether he wants the job on a permanent basis.
Davies has been on an emotional rollercoaster since his appointment on Friday, when the Roar’s longest-serving coach Aloisi elected to walk away because of his frustration with the club’s owners.
“I’ve got so much respect for John – he was the one who brought me here,” said Davies, who forged a strong bond with Aloisi when the pair were on the Melbourne Victory coaching staff.
Aloisi gave Davies an assistant coaching role at the Roar this season, and now the former Welsh under-21 international finds himself in charge – at least temporarily.
“It’s a difficult situation at the moment,” Davies said.
“The playing group and the football department have lost somebody that they care about, somebody who’s contributed hugely to this football club over the last three and a half years, the accessibility he’s given and everything he’s contributed on and off the field.
“I’m just focusing on game to game, preparing the playing group to play. Maybe over the course of time the club will come to some decisions and I’ll have time to reflect.”
Davies’ first game in charge was on Saturday night when the Roar lost 2-1 to Sydney FC at Jubilee Stadium.
While it was a better performance than the previous week’s 4-1 thrashing in Wellington, it was Brisbane’s fifthstraight defeat.
Davies has little time to reflect on the loss, with the Roar back in action on Wednesday night when they meet the Jets in Newcastle.
