TWO Cape York council employees have been recognised as compassionate and dedicated at the Aurukun Shire Council Deadly Awards.

Aged care worker George Warusam was named Employee of the Year and administration manager Rhonda Jolliffe is the Volunteer of the Year.

“George Warusam is a dedicated employee who was nominated by four different people for his outstanding operational support work at the Chivaree Aged Care, Disability Services and Respite Centre,” Aurukun Shire Council Mayor Dereck Walpo.

“A valued member of the team, George is compassionate and personable with the centre’s clients. He is an active member of the Defence Force and is currently assisting with the cadets program in Aurukun. George gives of his time willingly and volunteers at numerous community functions.”

Cr Walpo said Ms Jolliffe was at every council event handing out packs or buttering bread for annual celebrations including Aurukun Day, the River to Ramp Run, community concerts and Anzac Day.

“She takes the lead and coordinates other volunteers to ensure a successful outcome for the community,” he said.

“The Deadly Awards are an initiative to celebrate Aurukun Shire Council’s 40th anniversary and we will continue to run them each year to reward our hardworking employees and volunteers.”
