Final day blues deny Brahmans in T20 tilt
THE Queensland Country Brahmans have narrowly missed out on taking home the national country cricket T20 championship shield, after losing to New South Wales Country twice on Saturday.
Both teams were undefeated as they made their way on to the pitch for Saturday morning’s round match, with both teams guaranteed a place in the final later that afternoon.
The morning fixture would still have overall championships points up for grabs, while the afternoon final would be purely for the silverware.
In the first game, NSWC won the toss and batted, setting a total of 8/147.
The Brahmans’ Jake Roach, who plays for Mulgrave in the Cricket Far North competition, was exceptional in restricting the NSWC bats.
Roach produced figures of 3-23 from his three overs, bagging his second three-wicket haul of the tournament, after also taking 3-22 against Western Australia Country last Thursday.
Despite the achievable total, Queensland Country’s bats failed to fire in the chase, finishing on 9/114.
In the afternoon’s T20 final, it was the same story.
Winning the toss and electing to bat again, NSWC set a total of 7/112 before the Brahmans were dismissed for 87 in 18.1 overs.
With the Australian Country Cricket Championships’ T20 schedule now complete, the teams will compete in a five-round 50-over competition, with the 50-over final to be held on January 11.
