Star project looking to network with FNQ

THE partners of a $3.6 billion project in Brisbane are on the lookout for niche Far North Queensland producers and tourism providers.

Representa­tives from Star Entertainm­ent will be spruiking interest from suppliers and tourism operators during the invitation-only event at the Pullman Internatio­nal hotel years in Mareeba.

But after putting the business up for sale in late 2017, and sadly getting no bites, she has made the decision to close.

The multi billion dollar entertainm­ent, dining and tourism project is due to open at Queen’s Wharf in 2022.

“The scale offers opportunit­ies for suppliers, from tropical fruits, seafoods and meats,” a Star spokesman said.

“The projects are driven by tourism opportunit­ies.

“There are enormous opportunit­ies supported her over the years.

“It’s the end of an era,” she said.

“It is very sad but, I’ve had it up for sale for 18 months and no takers, so I thought I’ve just got to do it.

“I’ve been here 35 years – for state, including North.”

Star Entertainm­ent has also broken ground on a 53 level, $400 million tower on the Gold Coast.

The spokesman said the Queen’s Wharf and Gold Coast developmen­ts offered a platform for the Far North to tap into the SE Queensland tourist market and vice versa.

“Cairns could become a the whole the Far I’ve owned it for 25 and worked here 10 years before that. The shop is still going sort of good, but of course there’s a downturn.”
