ATHERTON

Ian Toward won the Friday Trinity Petroleum six-hole chook run with a great 16 points, the junior winner was Jacko Clark.

Saturday’s opening day Stableford, sponsored by Tolga Hotel, had a great field of 88 players (19 ladies and 69 men).

Ladies’ winner was Gaye Steventon 38pts, runner-up Dee Jierasak 35pts on countback from Michelle Pearsall; NTPs 11 D Jierasak, 13 S Watson, 18 M Pearsall.

Men’s winner was the in-form Mark Styan with a handy 43pts, r/up Darren Morey 42pts on countback from Dan Shaw; NTPs 3 and 13 M Broadley, 11 J Jenkins, 18 M Styan.

Peter Steventon won Sunday’s Tableland Top Meats Stableford with 41pts, r/up Tim Lambert 39pts.

Tim Lambert won the 18th jackpot birdie hole. This week the Wednesday sporters start their 2019 year with a stroke round, Thursday ladies have their opening day Stableford.

Friday’s Trinity Petroleum six-hole chook run will be followed by finger food and goose club draw at 6.30pm, including the members’ jackpot joker $550.

Saturday, January 12, is the Brian Kundee Insurance Broker-sponsored monthly medal stroke. Sunday, January 13, is the Tableland Top Meats Stableford.

The legacy of the wettest December in nearly half a century is that the Mareeba Golf Course is looking an absolute picture. The downside is that it has meant the volunteer greens workers have been going flat out to have the course in such great shape. NTP’s — Shirley Carney on 6, Rachael Byrne on 17. Congratulations to Couper Smith on his trip to Brisbane to Compete in the Cameron Smith Junior Classic at Wantima Country Club in Brisbane. Couper had a great round of 80 Gross and 69 Nett. Couper once again was able to shake hands and chat with his idle — Cameron Smith. Couper then went to the Gold coast to compete in the Greg Norman Junior Masters! This was a four day event that was held at Palmer Colonial and Palmer Gold Coast (Robina). Couper played three fantastic games of golf with 80/68, 82/70, 83/71 to make the cut into the final day and to finish with his best round of 79 Gross 67 Nett. Couper was Nett Winner for the Under 13 Division. Couper accomplished quite a few personal milestones this year and is hoping for 2019 to be even better.
