Nationalise the four banks
THE banking inquiry produced 76 recommendations that the government hopes will once and for all fix the greed and corrupt policies of these institutions.
These banks have caused enormous hardship and untold grief to a huge percentage of the Australian population. Will real change occur? Or after a lot of huff and puff, will we see these banks revert back to their bad old ways?
Before the Commonwealth Bank was privatised there was very little corruption and greed. We had the government then, responsible for the operation of one of the major banks, hence it was owned by the Australian taxpayer.
All the other major banking institutions had to drop in line and very little corruption and greed was evident. We all know the privatisation of the CBA changed all that for the worse.
Many of us who saw this problem arising, dumped the major banking institutions for the smaller lenders such as the credit unions. Those of us who did, never looked back and certainly will never deal with the major lenders again.
However, this may change if the federal government nationalised the four major banks and thereby, be responsible for their operation. Jerry Micola, Tolga
