Injured Yadi faces month on sidelines

- JORDAN GERRANS

CAIRNS jockey Nor Yadi is expecting to be out of the saddle for over a month after suffering an ankle injury on Monday at Cannon Park.

In the second last race of the afternoon, Craiglea Mariah, with Yadi (pictured) on board, was fractious in the barriers and became cast.

The Alwyn Bailey-trained mare was declared a late scratching as the 40-year-old sustained an ankle injury in the incident and required emergency treatment, as he was transported to Cairns Hospital.

Yadi, nicknamed Mac, was in positive spirits earlier this week and is hopeful of a quick return to race riding.

“I feel good but I have a fracture in my foot, it is a bit sore still,” Yadi said.

“The doctors said I would be out for about six weeks, but we will see. If I feel better, I could be back earlier.”

Bailey was advised that Craiglea Mariah will require a further barrier certificate prior to its next start.

Jockey Yadi will require a medical clearance to satisfy the Queensland Racing Integrity Commission before resuming riding.

Elsewhere, boom apprentice Adin Thompson continued his hot streak on Tuesday, riding a winner at Mackay.

Meanwhile, five non-TAB races will be run at Innisfail Turf Club this Saturday.
