Sons hit heights in name of their mum

A LOVE without limits has spurred on two brothers to embark on a challenging expedition to the top of the world.

Elite Real Estate Agents sales director Karl Latham and New Zealand-based brother Lewis lost their mother Julie on April 29, 2009 to pancreatic cancer.

Last year, the pair lost their nanna June Sherwood on the same day.

In May this year, the brothers will make the arduous, physically demanding trek to Mt Everest Base Camp with a goal of raising $10,000 for the UK’s Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund.

Originally from Burnley, north of Manchester in the United Kingdom, Cairnsbased Mr Latham moved to Australia about 15 years ago, shortly after his mother was diagnosed with cancer.

Mr Latham saw his mum after she was diagnosed but she sadly passed away while he was returning to the UK for a final goodbye.

He said he and Lewis were extremely close to their mother and her passing affected them both deeply.

“Climbing Everest is a dream we both told mum we would achieve some day so to honour her memory we wanted to raise money for cancer research,” Mr Latham said.

“So far we have raised $4300. We want to help find a cure or a better treatment for the future as mum didn’t stand a chance from this aggressive disease.” You can donate at www.gofundme.com/ everest-for-julie-and-june
