RIGHT LURE CAN MAKE ALL THE DIFFERENCE

-

WITH barramundi lure fishing red hot at present, I thought we should discuss lure selection to optimise your chances of success. This week we will look at hard-bodied lures and what features to look for.

I recently fished Hinchinbrook Channel and several of the creeks were still running a little dirty which saw loud rattling lures work very well when casting the snags. The +3 Classic Barra 120 was the killer lure especially as the light faded in the late afternoons.

Working this lure slow and twitching sends out a strong vibration, that at times, fish will hone in on. During the heat of the day in bright conditions I had great success on the non-rattling Lead’s Hi-Jacker in the pink colour that flashed well in the discoloured water.

The age-old question of using rattling lures verse non-rattling lures can only be determine on the day as it varies dramatically. If casting the shallow flats and snags my top five hard bodied lures would be the Lead’s Hi-Jacker, +3 Classic Barra 120, Gold Bomber 15a, Jackson Athlete 120 and Killalure 2 Deadly 85mm.

These lures all produce on barramundi when targeting the shallow water and worth having in your tackle box collection.

It is all about giving the fish what they want and don’t be afraid to experiment with new techniques and lure selections to produce results.
