Man on drug charges
MOSSMAN detectives charged a 53-year-old man after a search of his Miallo home allegedly uncovered several hydroponic cannabis set-ups. Police allege that a small set-up was found inside the home, while a second larger hydroponic growing system was found inside a nearby shipping container. It is further alleged that several plants were found at the rear of the house and a quantity of dried cannabis in a bin. The man was charged with producing and possessing a dangerous drug, possessing things used in the commission of a crime and possessing a drug utensil. He will face the Mossman Magistrates Court next month.
Plans for art market
EXPRESSIONS of interest are open for the Cairns Indigenous Art Fair art market. Stall holders are advised to submit their application as soon as possible. Download an application form at ciaf.com.au. The market will run from July 12-14. Sea Swift has increased its partnership to include sponsorship of the art market. In addition, Sea Swift also sponsors the opening night fireworks and lets artists freight their artwork to CIAF for free.
Driver to face court
A 43-YEAR-old Cardwell man will front court after a roadside drug test returned a positive reading. He had been stopped on Victoria St about 5.30pm on Monday. The relevant samples from the roadside drug test have been forwarded to a laboratory for analysis. The man will appear at the Tully Magistrates Court on April 18.
Old Singers on show
KURANDA Library will be hosting an interactive display of antique Singer sewing machines during March and April. Visitors are invited to come along and try their hand at using a variety of treadle and hand crank machines dating from 1887. The machines will be on display from March 5April 19.
