WHAT THEY SAID AT CANNON PARK

-

Race 1 – Two-Years-Old Maiden Plate (950m) Oriental Girl for trainer Roy Chillemi and jockey Wanderson D’Avila from Bettahoney and She Strykes It “She won with authority,” said Chillemi. “I’ll back off her now and give her a bit of breather. If she’s gonna hang around for the better races in June, you can’t put too much pressure on her now.” Race 2 – Three-Years-Old Maiden Handicap (950m) Golden Charles for trainer Michael Lee and jockey Rachel Shred from Jack Reacher and Muzanboal Rouge “He had the blinkers on for the first time today,” said Shred. “Had a little bit of trouble getting him around the corner …. Once we got to the outside fence and he had something follow, he started to let down and just got there.” Race 3 – Three-Years-Old Maiden Handicap (950m) Poetic Attacks for trainer Janel Ryan and jockey Chris Whiteley from Loveisall Youneed and Wee Willie Mac “She’s a nice filly,” said Whitely. “She settled nice in the run, started grabbing the bit at the 500m and soon as she balanced up she started to hit the line and run over the top of them.” Race 4 – Class 6 Handicap (950m) Lattimer for trainer Stephen Massingham and jockey Adin Thompson from Crimson Halo and Saba Lass “He’s been pretty impressive since I had him – two runs, two wins,” said Massingham. “He’s a nice little horse, there’s not much of him, but a really good trier so that helps. When he got around the corner he picked the bit up and found the corner really well.” Race 5 – Class 3 Plate (950m) Good As Done for trainer Stephen Massingham and jockey Adin Thompson from Sparkly Star and Starena “He’s uptight and a very tense sort of horse, but he’s coming good,” said Massingham. “If he learns to relax he’ll be a lot better later on. He’s a work-in-progress but he’s found some nice ability.” Race 6 – Class 3 Plate (950m) Hot Shot Harry for trainer Scott Cooper and jockey Nathan Day from He’s Blessed and Voltaic “It was a good run second-up,” said Cooper. “Pretty easy horse to train and he’s got natural ability. He ran a nice 1200m down Townsville caught three or four wide, he’ll go to a 1250m next start.” Race 7 – Three-Years-Old Handicap (1250m) Bank Teller for trainer Roy Chillemi and jockey Stephen Wilson from Grey Falcon and Shunter “I was hoping she’d do that today – very good,” said Chillemi. “She had to beat this field here to go on to a race that she’s bought for in Rockhampton. Hopefully, she can win one more race and we’ll take her down if all goes well.” Race 8 – Open Handicap (1250m) Hot Saga for trainer Fred Wieland and jockey Amanda Thomson from Confronting and Green Anchor “I’m very happy,” said Thomson. “The horse has got a lot of ability, he just doesn’t seem to try half the time. But today he did everything right for once …. It was good to see him get down and have a go at the end, because he can be a bludger ….” Race 9 – Class 2 Handicap (1250m) The Fox Effect for trainer Trevor Rowe and jockey Justin Stanley from Power of Divas and Fred’s Gift “She run a really honest race in Townsville first-up about three or four weeks ago,” said Rowe. “It was only 1000m and she got to the line well. Today the distance suited, she drew ideal, good jockey – she done the rest.” Race 10 – Benchmark 69 Handicap (1400m) Centro Superior for trainer Sharlee Hoffman and jockey Adin Thompson from Super Mario and Arno Bay “I didn’t think he would be in the top three,” said Thompson. “But I had it where I was meant to have it. I did get a bit worried around the corner there because I wanted to work into it from the six ….”
