Taking a punt on two dual-position rookies

- MATTHEW MCINERNEY NRL SUPERCOACH

THE five-eighth and halfback positions have traditionally been my weakest link, but rather than stick with tried and tested options I’m going for two dual-position rookies.

At least, that’s how it stands two weeks out from kick-off.

With young gun Dylan Brown in line for first crack in Parramatta’s halves and Adam Keighran in a similar position for New Zealand, the duo shape as my attempt of saving money on players who could turn out to be cash cows.

All they need is their respective coaches to give them the nod for the first three weeks of the season.

Warriors coach Stephen Kearney rated both Keighran and Chanel Harris-Tevita as most likely to get the nod to usurp Shaun Johnson for the right to wear the No. 7 jersey.

They’re still neck-and-neck for the first start, so that all-important SuperCoach selection may change when Kearney names his team for Round One.

Parramatta coach Brad Arthur says Brown is the frontrunner to partner Mitchell Moses in the Eels’ halves.

He impressed in the side’s trials, and the fact the Warriors were willing to spend $3 million to lure him across the ditch proves he’s a talent worth keeping an eye on, and not just for SuperCoach.

I shamelessly learned about both men in our NRL SuperCoach Cheapie Bible, which you can find on the Cairns Post website. It’s the definitive guide to the cheapest players available in SuperCoach. It analyses the chance of game time for each featured player, and is regularly updated with the latest news.
