On the tourism levy

-

Oh no, Mayor Manning has jumped the shark (CP, 05/03). We can’t tax our way to prosperity, Bob, even if you do re-label it as a “modest levy”. Far better to look for savings, efficiencies and improved management practices at TTNQ than to whack an extra burden on business. Woz, Parramatta Park What a great idea, let’s tax the tourists more, bound to attract more. I think this council is very tired. Time for a change. Craig, Earlville Promote the region Bob Manning by attracting tourists to world class golf courses, entertainment etc. They don’t care about your house and land developers. Graham Mailes, Palm Cove four-day outlook map has the trough moving south and dissipating. Why the inconsistency? Rashmi, Edmonton Whatever happened to the Cairns “global tourism hub”? I see the Gold Coast believes it’s getting one. Can there be two “global hubs” in one state? Miss T, Tolga Hard times for Scott Morrison, a prime minister under siege from his own party members. The fragmented LNP coalition is in free-fall with MPs leaving en masse. The Morrison I am the way, one man band revival experiment has failed miserably, while providing an ineffectual government. Democrat, Cairns So sad to hear that our favourite restaurant Bel Paese has closed for good. Nick’s seafood pizzas were amazing. We wish him all the best. Keith, Woree Local of Cairns (CP, 05/03). Grant-dependent alarmists said the Reef was dead. It wasn’t. The media, including our billion dollar ABC, repeated the wrongology without proper questioning. That damaged local people’s livelihoods. What planet are you on? Peter Campion, Tolga Rita Panahi. When you’ve had enough of writing informative and even hard-hitting editorials, can you please enter politics. A sane voice such as yours is sadly missing from the current crop. That goes for LNP and Labor. Beth, Kanimbla Petrol prices are up by between 14 and 18 cents per litre overnight. Classic example of a rip-off. Time for petrol to be price controlled. Geoff, Westcourt Enough is enough … Tired of hearing that crims have a hard life. We are all suffering as a result of criminal antics. Kids out of wedlock having kids and the cycle all starts again. Parents receiving parenting payments need to be accountable so kids know right from wrong. Where were you when the sports clubs were broken into? AT, Edge Hill Have the George Pell supporters not head or read what his defence barrister argued? You will note the argument is not about him having done anything, but it being a “low level - no more than a plain vanilla sexual penetration case”. Nic, Bentley Park
