On student protest

-

Bob, Karl, Bill (CP, 11/03). Let’s hope that the youth, their parents and educators of today have more sense than to listen to your outdated views on climate change. Your archaic ideals are exactly why today’s youth need to speak out even louder. Good on them. Jules, Freshwater On student protest. OK. Thanks for the opinion. Here’s a fact for you: we are still striking for our climate. See you on March 15. Lulu Arraiza, Babinda I drove along the Esplanade with my 10year-old nephew from Brisbane and he asked where the Great Barrier Reef was. I pointed out to the east. He was gobsmacked and confused. He had learned so much about climate change etc at school, and expected the water to be “brown and dirty and filled with rubbish”, satisfying his imagery that “the Reef was dead”. I think it was his activism and indoctrination versus education watershed moment. Joanne, Mt Sheridan To Bob of Smithfield re: student protest. Perhaps you should encourage your kids to attend the protest. They may enlighten you on some things. In particular the sad state of our planet due to human greed. Steve, Cairns the pay rise. UAP supporter, Cairns Here’s some quick maths on the Labor Party gender quotas: 50 per cent male + 50 per cent female = 100 per cent incompetence. Sam, Edge Hill RE: franking credits. Wocka (CP, 11/03) is spot on. I am a pensioner with a retail superannuation fund. Under Labor, franking credits from my fund would not be credited back into my account. However if, hypothetically, I had a million dollars in an industry fund then the franking credits would be credited to the account. God help us if Labor sees this as equitable, but as their treasurer’s spokesman Chris Bowen says “if you don’t like it, vote for someone else“. What a great slogan for Labor. Retiree, Bentley Park Wocka (CP, 11/03). As taxpayers, super funds use franking credits to avoid double taxation. But the same as retirees, unused credits will not be refunded. You are correct to say that tax deducted from my gross pay is credited to me. Similarly, tax deducted from a company’s gross profits is credited to the company, not me. It is company tax. Cashed-up retirees pay no tax at all, so there is nothing to refund. Get it now? Terry, Kanimbla We went to the Northern Pride game Saturday evening. Having not been for a while it was so nice to see such a great game, wonderful cheerleading, amazing attendance and no loud annoying music which distracted from enjoying a game of footy. Keep up the great work and compliments to the new CEO. Footy Fan Rose Croucher, Brinsmead So frustrating and disheartening for sports clubs to constantly be damaged. These young offenders should be made to clean up their mess and parents made to pay for repairs out of their Centrelink payments. A security guard and large dog would work wonders in the meantime. Pam, Bayview Brisbane Broncos should be renamed Kiwi imports. Al, Woree
