Social focus at core of leadership lesson

YAY, it was finally Tuesday – Just Leadership Day.

On February 26, the student leadership team of St Rita’s Babinda travelled in Mrs Jago’s car to attend the Caritas Just Leadership Day, which was held at St Rita’s School at South Johnstone.

On the day, we discussed how the Caritas Australia team is changing lives. This included showing video clips of various people and the challenges that they face each day.

We saw the story of a 12year-old girl living in Zimbabwe, who was required to travel multiple 3km trips through croc-infested waters to meet everyday water needs.

We came up with some ideas to raise awareness and funds for people who are less fortunate than ourselves.

We experienced some fun games that required a lot of teamwork, such as an activity where all of the attending schools created a circle. We mimicked a spiderweb using a ball of knitting wool.

We then tossed a beach ball that was covered in our hopes and dreams for those in need.

The aim of the game was to get the ball to bounce three times on the web without the ball falling through.

Personally, I especially enjoyed the lunch break because we had the opportunity to socialise with students from other schools.

I met some great friends from St Rita’s South Johnstone, such as Eve, Lily and Avita.

I really hope that Caritas Australia can continue changing lives, and remember to: “Give Lent 100 per cent”.
