WHEN more than 100 kids rocked up to the first Ninja Gymnastics programs at South Cairns Gymnastics last month, gym manager and instructor Karen Magee was overwhelmed with excitement.

The new Saturday programs include NinjaGym for Prep-Year 6 students, which runs from 10.30-11.30am, and KindaNinja for 2-5-year-olds from noon-1pm.

Trinity Martinovic, 11, has been a regular attendee of the NinjaGym program since its first session in February.

Trinity’s mother, Jackie, said her daughter developed an interest for the sport only late last year, after she got a taste for it through her school’s health and physical education class.

“She’s being active, doing something physical and she really enjoys it,” Jackie said.

“It’s a really good program because it gets the kids active and interested, while making new friends as well.”

Magee said the creative circuit-based programs allowed junior gymnasts with any level of experience to use the full range of equipment in the gym’s purpose-built facility.

“These programs are designed to get kids active and aware,” she said. “They aim to improve confidence, strength, balance, body awareness and co-ordination.”

She said the Ninja programs were great for children of all abilities.

“Our awesome coaches are there to support them,” she said.

“The programs are a great benefit to children who suffer from autism, ADHD, ADD and Anxiety.”
