NORTHERN Performance has just expanded its motorcycle repair business to include the sale of KTM and CFMoto machines.

The business is the only KTM stockist in Cairns.

A deal was struck with the premier performance manufacturer KTM to include the full range of enduro and motocross machines and a selected range of adventure and road bikes.

Business owner Max Nulley said Northern Performance had sold 12 bikes in the first weeks of trade.

“There has been a phenomenal response,” Mr Nulley said.

“KTM is a long established brand and Cairns has been without a dealership for about 18 months.

“We have been getting an overwhelming feeling from the riding community that they are really happy to see these brands in Cairns and see them being serviced by us, who understand the product.”

The range of Chinese-made machines from CFMoto include LAMS-approved road bikes and all-terrain vehicles and buggies.

The venture is Mr Nulley’s first foray into motorbike sales though the repair business is well established.

“When I started Northern Performance I was focusing on repairs and the servicing side of the business but my plan was always to grow into retail and new bike sales,” he said.

“It was very important to me to have a good mechanical workshop.

“To support new bike sales you have to have a good mechanical knowledge and a good workshop, which is a real driver of retail otherwise it is a little bit of a fake show,” he said.

The importers and distributers of both brands identified an untapped market in the Far North and enthusiastically placed products with Northern Performance, Mr Nulley said.

“KTM are the premier offroad brand in the world and they were very excited about the style of business we have.

“We are a small family owned business and we are passionate riders,” he said.

The new showroom on McGregor Rd currently stocks 12 KTM machines.
