The Cairns Post

Dark days are behind us now

-

THE season started with a bang, literally, with the light tower on Reef Turf blowing up during the anticipated grand final replay last week.

Fortunately, we have great people at Cairns Hockey with staff and volunteers at the hockey centre on Sunday identifying the problem and working on a solution.

The lights were ready for this week’s competition which was a great effort by everyone.

This week we look forward to a challenge-free round.

Saints Club will be looking to score their first season points in both the men’s and women’s competition while Trinity Stingers men are looking to make up for a slow start and Stingers women want to double their points and continue on their winning ways.

Souths Club are well positioned to be 2019 premiership contenders across both the Men’s and Women’s A Grade competition, however, Brothers men are full of confidence and will be trying to make an early mark on season 2019.

It is the first chance for Souths women to test out the new Argentinian goal-keeper playing for Brothers this year.

It was great to see Heather Morris (US) and Peter Bingham (Ireland) returning to Cairns to play and coach, giving the comp an international flavour. Former Kookaburras captain Mark Knowles will visit Cairns on April 13-14 for coaching clinics.
