Big names can’t stop Gulls

- LACHLAN GREY

NRL bad boy Jayden Nikorima and rugby union convert Izaia Perese were last-minute inclusions for Redcliffe’s Rivalry Round clash with WynnumManly Seagulls but failed to see their side home at Kougari Oval.

In his first outing since being sacked by Sydney Roosters over a positive drug test scandal in 2017, Nikorima showed glimpses of his Emerging Maroons form but didn’t quite hit his straps as the Seagulls sliced through for a 18-10 win.

Former Queensland Reds winger Perese debuted at centre and ran strongly despite showing some inexperience with a 75th minute error in attack.

Redcliffe coach Adam Mogg was pleased with the early form of both players despite individual errors.

“I thought they both ran all right, to be honest. Nickers had his first game in a really long time and showed promise, he’ll get better with a few more games and Izzy’s got plenty of potential,” he said.

“That’s his first game of (senior) league and he’s a good athlete – I know (Anthony) Seibold gives him a good wrap so I think he’ll be playing Broncos pretty soon as well.” TOWNSVILLE BLACKHAWKS 20 (Thomas Gilbert, Michael Carroll, Temone Power tries; Levi Dodd 4 goals) d NORTHERN PRIDE 4 Tuala try) (Enari EASTS 22 (Matt Cooper, Bennett Leslie, Billy Walters, Curtis Dansey Smaller tries; Aaron Booth 2, Sam Foster goal) d IPSWICH JETS 20 (Richard Pandia, Julian Christian, Peter Gubb tries; Marmin Barba 4 goals) MACKAY CUTTERS 42 (Jordan Kenworthy 2, Dan Russell, Rueben Cotter, Shane Wright, Ross Bella tries; Marcus Jensen 7 goals) d CENTRAL QUEENSLAND 20 (Kainoa Gudgeon 2, George Grant, Nathan Bassani tries; Bessie Aufaga-Toomaga 2 goals) WYNNUM-MANLY 18 (Kalolo Saitaua, Mitchell Cronin, Edene Gebbie tries; Fetalaiga Pauga 3 goals) d REDCLIFFE 10 (Aaron Whitchurch, Jeremy Hawkins tries; Bryce Donovan goal) BURLEIGH BEARS 32 (Jesse Arthars, Kurtis Rowe, Pat Politoni, Matt Robinson, Sami Sauiluma, Dylan Phythian tries; Tyronne Roberts-Davis 4 goals) d TWEED SEAGULLS 4 (Kirk Murphy try) NORTHS 42 (Brandon Lee 2, Christopher Sio 2, Paul Ulberg, Ethan Bullemor, Nixon Putt, Jack Ahearn tries; Luke Pollock 3, Connor Broadhurst 2 goals) d SOUTHS-LOGAN 16 (Jack Joass 2, Alex Bishop tries; Tanah Boyd 2 goals) SUNSHINE COAST 28 (Nathan Saumalu 2, Dane Hogan, Chris Lewis, Daniel Dole tries; Nicholas Hynes 4 goals) d PNG HUNTERS 26 (Joe Joshua 3, Rau Junior Kobale, Justin Yoka tries; Charlie Simon 3 goals)
