FIVE THINGS WE LEARNT FROM THE PRIDE’S ROUND 3 LOSS

-

1COWBOYS FLYER MAKES STATEMENT Pride flyer Gideon Gela-Mosby was dynamic at the fullback position. The Cowboys allocation took the role on with gusto and was arguably the best-on-ground for the home side at both ends, looking dangerous in attack and safe in defence.

2BLAIR’S TANK IN TIP-TOP SHAPE There are no concerns over Pride backrower Maurice Blair’s gas tank. The 34-year-old former NRL star got through the full 80 minutes for a second straight week on Saturday night, after his 52-minute performance off the bench in the opening round.

3BLACKHAWKS BETTER IN THE WET The Blackhawks showed the Pride a thing or two about wet weather footy. Townsville fiveeighth Kyle Laybutt, hooker Krys Freeman and Cowboyscontracted lock Tom Gilbert were sensational in showing the Pride how to do a job in soggy conditions.

4ISC DEBUTANT MIXES IT WITH THE BIG BOYS Pride forward Terrence CaseyDouglas has a bright Intrust Super Cup career ahead of him. The 20-year-old bolter racked up some noteworthy stats in his 24-minute stint on Saturday night, including running for 75 metres from just five carries.

5HAMPTON NOT SO WELL TRAVELLED After carrying out his 18th-man duties for the Cowboys in Brisbane on Friday night, Ben Hampton (above) boarded a flight to Cairns to take a spot on the Pride’s left edge on Saturday night. He may have taken the field with a case of SPL – stiff plane legs – with Blackhawks centre Levi Dodd having his number for most of the night. — ROWAN SPARKES
