Gifted students are role models

-

THE talented and hard-working students, staff, parents and volunteers involved with three high school productions should take a bow.

Cairns State High School’s Singin’ In The Rain opens today, Trinity Bay State High School’s sold-out Annie Jr finishes in the school theatre tonight and a joint production between St Monica’s and St Augustine’s colleges of Fiddler On The Roof was performed earlier this month, also at CPAC.

All schools were involved in months of preparations with many students and staff putting in 12-hour plus days to ensure the musicals went according to plan.

The hundreds of students in the casts and back-stage crews spent a lot of time at rehearsals and still had to finish their homework and school assignments after hours.

In Singin’ In The Rain a special platform on the stage has been designed to collect the falling rainwater from CPAC’s ceiling and to prevent the water from soaking everything.

A lot of detail went into the sets to bring the musicals to life in the theatres.

The students taking part are role models to their peers and other young people in the community.

They show that with hard work and persistency they can put on a top class event and are a credit to their schools and communities.

Let’s hope some of their talents are recognised for a future acting or singing career down the track.

Many proud parents and families will gather at CPAC today and tonight eager to see Singin’ In The Rain and we are sure they will not be disappointed.

To all involved in Cairns State High School’s show: break a leg. Nick Dalton Deputy editor
