Road upgrades
A SECTION of Poison Creek Road (between Minke Road and Wilton Access Road), Cooktown has closed for upgrades as of yesterday. Cook Shire Council will undertake culvert works, during which the section will be closed to all traffic. The works are expected to last three weeks. Residents in the closed section will still be able to access their properties, however No Name Creek will be completely closed.
Kids’ Lego sessions
SIGN your little ones up for Lego WeDo 2.0! Sessions for children aged 7-8. These sessions run in Cooktown Library on Thursdays, 3.30-4.30pm and Bloomfield Library on Mondays, 3-4pm. Bookings are essential, contact your library to make a booking.
Oval irrigation works
WORKS to upgrade the irrigation system at the Weipa Cricket Oval will commence on June 3 and are expected to be completed by June 14. The oval will be closed to all users and residents during this period. For information, call Weipa Town Authority on 4030 9400.
Licensing services
QUEENSLAND Government staff will be at the Aurukun Training Centre from today until Thursday to help members of the community with licence services, including replacements, L and P tests, proof of age cards and renewals. Bring ID, no cash – EFTPOS only. Call 1800 130 886 for information.
Japanese visit
TORRES Shire Council hosted a visit to Thursday Island by the Ambassador of Japan on Thursday in early May. The Ambassador attended the Thursday Island Cemetery and laid a wreath at the Japanese Memorial. The visiting party also spent time inspecting the 700-plus Japanese pearl divers’ graves.
