Happy golfing.

MILLAA MILLAA

You don’t have to be mad to play golf in the conditions faced by the members at Royal Millaa Millaa this weekend for the Malanda Bakery 4BBB stableford trophy, but it certainly was a definite advantage.

Low-flying clouds, light mizzle and the odd shower greeted this week’s competition.

A reasonable number of competitors toughed it out for a really good team game between mates. Strong is the mettle of the Mountain Men. We welcomed back Tony Lattimore, our snowbird full member from New South Wales. I repeat, Danny, “Full” member. We had hoped he might have brought a wee bit of drought back with him as we haven’t had dry conditions since November. Thanks to Dylan “3-Wood” Williams for joining us. Lovely to see GG Suffield again after his jaunt to the Land of the Long White Cloud back on his home course of the never-going-away cloud.

Who would have thought in conditions that tough that scoring would be so hot? But, wow! Warrick Howarth and brother Grant Miller absolutely scorched the course and returned a whopping 48 team points. Warrick himself shot 72 (three over par gross) and Grant assisting to post the best score of the day – 48 was poignant given it was Grant’s 48th birthday. Happy birthday, Grant, and welcome to “A Grade” Warrick. Second place was claimed by Happy and Not Happy with 45. Graham Suffield wasn’t sure about playing in the damp, but Alan Hapgood ragged him enough to turn up. We don’t know where Shane Bradley and Ruthless finished, but given the moaning about the incorrect write-up last week, it was safer to mention them anyway. Well done.

David Welch claimed a ripper NTP on the 5/14 lipping out, missing a hole-in-one by fractions. He sent seismologists into a frenzy with his third shot into the par 5 4th. His trusty glove, not of the wet weather variety, finally succumbed to conditions. The mis-hit dug that much into the ground that China was seen. His playing group cringed in empathy, but he toughed it out and finished with a brilliant par. Tough nut, our Dave. Shane Bradley’s sweet tee shot got him the chockies on 1/10 and Alan Hapgood’s second on 3/12 was a ripper. But congratulations to all who turned up to support our club’s perennial good guys’ day. Ashley and Deb and your team at Malanda Bakery, our community is lucky to have you. Best pies ever! Next week, you are kidding, another month has rolled by and it’s the Malanda RSL/Falls Teahouse monthly medal again. Let’s hope Tony can call up some of the sunshine from NSW for us.

RAVENSHOE

Mixed foursomes winners at Ravenshoe Millstream Country Club for 2019 are Tarnia Wright and Danny Bradley. It was a closely fought contest with Shane Escott and Prudence Wright the runners-up.

Wednesday’s chook run went to Alan Heinemann.

Next Sunday is the June monthly medal with the first round of matchplay qualifying to be held as well.

June 9 will be our next fun day, a three-ball ambrose in support of the local State Emergency Service. More details next week. We apologise for the cancellation of our quiz night, but there were too many competing events for it to be a success. We will reschedule and details will be advertised. Don’t forget this Friday is our popular social night. CU@the 19th.
