AMERICAN rapper Tyga will jet to Queensland to headline the state’s bumper music festival, The Grass is Greener, which has expanded from Cairns to the Gold Coast.

Fresh off the release of his seventh album Legendary, the Cairns Post can reveal the 29year-old rapper and actor will join a line-up of Queensland stars including Amy Shark, The Veronicas and Mallrat.

Launched in Cairns in 2016 by festival owners Simon Coyle, Oli Frost and Hugh Foster, The Grass is Greener has added its first Gold Coast date, to be held at the Broadwater Parklands on October 19.

The Gold Coast show will feature one-off performances by Aussie hip-hop duo Hermitude and Peking Duk. The rest of the artists will then travel to the Cairns Showgrounds on October 26, where Golden Features will join the line-up.

“Our name pokes fun at the age-old saying, ‘The Grass is Greener on the other side’,” Frost said.

“TGIG is committed to supporting local talent in our very own backyard, to prove the grass is plenty green on the Gold Coast and Far North Queensland.”

The line-up for both shows includes: Crooked Colours, Habstrakt, Holy Goof, The Aston Shuffle, Kolombo, Graace, Jordan Burns, Choomba, Sophiegrophy, Taleena, Reynier, Jake Carmody and SVLT.

The projects he referred to will come as little surprise to Ms Trad, who has been the subject of sustained lobbying since stepping into the role after the 2017 election.

Mr Trompf said it was imperative the business cases for Nullinga Dam and the Cairns Convention Centre, currently still before Building Queensland, were finalised and released as quickly as possible.

“I’m reliably told the Nullinga Dam business case has been finished and is in the hands of the board of Building Queensland with a deadline of the end of this month to provide it to the government,” Mr Trompf said.

“We are keen to see both of those business cases in the public domain as quickly as possible.”

Mr Trompf also said the $70 million second stage of the Cairns University Hospital project, Cairns Western Arterial Rd duplication, upgrades to the Gulf Savannah Way and investment in marine maintenance facilities were top priorities.

“They haven’t gone away just because they weren’t addressed in the 2019-20 Budget,” he said.

“We are expecting many of those in the 2020 Budget, which is clearly shaping up to be an election budget.”

Enterprise North executive manager Kevin Byrne wanted similar assurances – as well as clarity on the government’s plans for attracting aviation to Cairns, a real commitment to duplicating the Kuranda Range Rd and an explanation about what the government’s plan to attract a Global Tourism Hub actually means.

“Nobody knows what it is,” he said.

“And more importantly there is questionable appetite from the proponents, including Star Casino, to progress any involvement in Cairns.”

Acting Mayor Terry James acknowledged the capital expenditure per capita in the Cairns region was significantly improved in 2019-20 compared to previous years.

“Despite the fact there were some local priorities that have missed out in this year’s budget, we are hopeful that this is the beginning of a trend in the right direction,” he said. Cazalys Community Fund 2019 is inviting any non-profit organisation that need access to funding to pursue their goals and individuals wanting to develop their academic or sporting achievements to apply.
