Fun event to build relationships, brick by brick

- DANAELLA WIVELL

A COMMON love of Lego will bring the young and the young at heart together next week at Cairns’ first Buildapaloosa.

Organiser Tania Cobham told the Cairns Post the idea of creating a space for people to bond over Lego sets came from her 75-year-old mum.

“Mum used to live in Perth and she is an avid Lego fan,” Ms Cobham said.

“She had this idea that people would come with their kit and then sit together and build them.

“The idea is that it becomes like a community of Lego fans.”

She said there was a lot of interest in the inaugural event.

“The event on Facebook went pretty crazy pretty quickly,” Ms Cobham said.

“It will be during the school holidays, so I’m imagining families will come together.

“This is the first event, so we’ll have a bit of a survey to see what works for people and then build the next event off that feedback. We want it to be something that works well for the Cairns community.” The Cairns Lego Buildapaloosa will be held at the Girl Guides Hall on James St at Cairns North on Friday, July 5 from 4pm to 6pm. Entry is $3. Queensland Rural and Industry Development Authority Co-contribution Restocking, Replanting and On-farm Infrastructure Grants of up to $400,000 are now available for primary producers impacted by the North and Far North Queensland Monsoon Trough earlier this year.
