InkMasters holds family friendly print event
INKMASTERS Cairns is giving families the chance to take home their own hand-drawn piece of the Cairns Botanic Gardens.
Children accompanied by adults are invited to join the printmaking group at a marquee in the Fitzalan Garden on Collins Ave at Carnival on Collins, 9am-2pm September 1, the last day of the Cairns Festival.
Small groups will be supplied with drawing materials and led on a walk through the gardens to the InkMasters Print Workshop in Greenslopes Street.
On the way through the gardens, they will stop to make a drawing on a piece of clear plastic.
When they reach the print workshop, they will be shown how to turn their drawing into a drypoint print.
Members of the InkMasters team will ink and print the freshly created drypoint plates on to background images.
The backgrounds, on beautiful cotton paper, have been prepared in advance by InkMasters artists Lee Edwards, Are you Queensland’s next Poetry Slam champion? The Tanks is hosting the Queensland Poetry Slam Heat 2019 to find contestants to compete in the Grand Final Slam on August 25 at the Queensland Poetry Festival in Brisbane. Contestants have two minutes to win over the crowd with their original spoken word poetry. Sign-up opens 30 minutes before the event, and only the first 20 competitors to sign up may compete, so get in early. There will be a Slam workshop on August 21, 4-6pm at Tank 5 ahead of the main show at 7.30pm. Email smircus@gmail.com for more information. Ms McKenzie said the workshop is accessible to kids, and anyone who has never done printmaking before.
“Each participant on the day will take home their own original creation,” she said.
“We’ll show them how to make a drawing inspired by the beautiful garden landscapes.”
The event is free and all materials are provided.
Participants are asked to wear closed-in shoes.
