Bazza Mareeba (CP, 31/07). Don’t believe story from your accountant. Until both of you walk in the shoes of the unemployed I suggest you and your accountant get to know the genuine people desperate for a job. Jackie, Mt Sheridan

Over 10,000 people misusing Centrelink in Australia, they’re not ripping off the government, they’re ripping off us taxpayers. Give them food vouchers to make them learn to do the right thing. David, Woree Bazza, Mareeba. Your story (CP, 31/07) is laughable. What landlord is going to rent to any unemployed people let alone 13? Concerned, Bentley Park The pension is the only thing that should rise and allowances made for payments for aged care. Working parents get subsidies for dumping their children in child care so aged care should receive more as they often have little income. David, Holloways Beach tech to process. Anyone who believes in that sort of modelling probably believes in yowies, too. Miss T, Tolga Re: Buchans Point. Hey Keith! You’re a local. You know Buchans Point has been a nudist beach since the early 70s. Dotch, Portsmith Re: caravan park charges. There are a few towns that open the racetrack, the sporting grounds or showgrounds or even just a flat space outside of town for fully self contained travellers. People who use these spaces often spend more in that town than other towns as a way of saying “thanks”. Cairns Showgrounds would be well used if it was offered. Bob, Kanimbla “Victoria is the strongest (state)” (CP, 30/07). Really? CommSec must have ignored Victoria’s infrastructure deficit, the lack of employability of many of its “population growth”, and that industrykilling electricity “demand management” is planned. Higgs, Tolga Aaron Jones you are correct. Even my daughter, who has lived in the US for the last 13 years, tells me it is nothing but negativity over there and so many believe the Reef is dead and not worth visiting. Thanks heaps not to all the negative nellies out there, your lies are working. Beth, Kanimbla Redlynch Central Shopping Centre is the most dangerous place in Cairns to do your shopping. High speed drivers. Two speed bumps are not enough plus the one at the main entrance. I want more signage and more speed bumps. Sunburnt kid, Redlynch Because Labor made it no longer an offence to “fail to appear” we now have the situation were someone has failed to appear five times and all the judge can do is relist the case for the sixth time. Surely something can be done about this contempt. Mark, Edmonton
