On anti-Adani protests

-

To read John Pratt’s letters on this page you would think he had thousands of local supporters – but only 7 turned up for his anti-Adani protest reported in Saturday’s paper. Perhaps that should tell him something. Mark, Cairns North On anti-mine protesters. I am moving my work over to GHD Cairns office in support of the company’s freedom to run a business without influence of a very small group of people in Australia who don’t support mining projects like Adani. John Pratt’s claim that 2/3 of Aussies oppose the mine is simply not true. Paul, Cairns City income - which is defined as “crony-capitalism”. Ruth, Mt Sheridan Re: Nullinga Dam. I’d bet money on the state Labor Government promising to give us Nullinga Dam as an election sweetener. Doug, Manoora My mate put solar panels all over his roof “to save the environment” but he still commutes 500km per week to work in an office in his 2.4 tonne diesel 4WD twin cab ute. I called him a “virtue signaller” but he still can’t figure out why. Tradie, Colorado Bazza, (CP, 03/08). The government just put the tax up on all booze mate, this time, not sellers fault. Bill, Mooroobool So the Queensland Government are concerned about the increased cost of concrete for Rookwood Weir, near Rockhampton, so I guess that will severely impact on the $5 billion Cross River Rail in Brisbane which I assume will consume many thousands of cubic meters of concrete, or is that OK because it’s Brisbane? Maurice Giddings, Ravenshoe Re: danger zones (CP, 02/08). No surprises, our community continues to be at risk from selfish drivers, distracted by their mobile phones and believing road rules apply to everyone but themselves. Running red lights, illegal u turns, driving straight through stop signs, a lack of courtesy and too frequently speeding. We have a big issue. Superintendent Sheldon’s comments are at odds with the view of many in the community who see a lack of policing and enforcement. I still have to see police on traffic duties in the CBD this year. As for Redlynch, the promised traffic blitz has amount to a ‘fizzle’, as it’s been very sporadic. A disappointed local. Rick, Redlynch The socialist govt of the socialist state of Victoria has donated over $400,000 for a mosque in an area with only 400 Muslims. Another free pass for the religion of peace. Shane, Kanimbla New roundabout rules for cyclists (CP, 03/08). Sorry, I can’t see that helping. If we want to end cyclist fatalities we need to build separate cycle paths and require cyclists to use them and to pay for them. Richard, Brinsmead
