A GOLD Coast couple made waves in the Far North on the weekend, claiming a double win in the Fashions on the Field at the Cairns Cup Carnival.

Broadbeach Cats coach Beau Zorko won the menswear class at Fashions on the Field in the Cairns Cup, while his wife Renee came second runner up in Lady of the Day.

Beau was one of 10 men to enter the menswear category for Fashions on the Field, compared with the 40 female entrants vying for Lady of the Day.

The two out-of-towners had come up to Cairns on a holiday break from football and ended up missing their flight back.

The happy coincidence gave them a chance to head to the Cairns Cup Carnival and enter in the Fashions on the Field.

Fashion is a passion for Renee, who said she began using it as a creative outlet after they were roped into a competition a couple of years ago.

Early on, they decided they would do it as a couple.

“We decided to have a play, and that’s what we’ve been doing since,” she said.

“The dress I wore today, four days ago it was just a scrap of fabric.”

“For this one, I just wanted my husband to myself for a whole weekend.”

Beau thanked his wife for the outfit he wore, a sharp royal blue suit jacket and tie.

“We got roped into the first one, and there’s been a spark ever since,” he said.

“Cairns was a lucky place for us, snagging first and second runner-up on our first go.”

Their young son, Zavier, 1, was also dressed up for the day in a cute baby-sized coat and cap.

“Zavier’s been coming to these since he was born,” Beau said. “It’s funny, we dress him up and he already knows exactly what’s going on.”
