Roos run riot to humiliate Storm

- ROWAN SPARKES rowan.sparkes@news.com.au

QUICK BREAK: Roo's Ty Millard scampers up the field in his team’s match against Edmonton Storm. CDRL KANGAROOS showed their determination to finish the season on a high, running out comfortable 62-12 winners over Edmonton Storm at Vico Oval yesterday.

In their last home game for the season, Roos gave their fans plenty to cheer about as they found the stripe on nine occasions.

Winger Leslie Byquar had a memorable day playing his first A grade game for the club.

The 17-year-old Roos junior opened the scoring with the first of his two tries on the afternoon.

Prop Taia Savage also crossed the line twice, while the lethal left-edge pairing of Solomon Fauid and Linton Enoch crossed for five tries between them, with Fauid scoring a hat-trick and Enoch bagging himself a double.

“The last few weeks has been building,” said Kangaroos coach Michael White.

“We had some confidence coming into this weekend. We certainly showed we can play some footy when we do the little things right first.”

Roos will miss out on finals this year after a mid-season form slump, but are poised to finish the year off strongly.

“We stumbled and a lot of that’s our own undoing,” White said.

“But we showed throughout the year we can play with the top sides and we certainly have the capability, but we let ourselves down. And there’s a number of factors – injuries, player commitment and so forth, but that’s the season.”

Roos will have the bye this weekend before closing out the season against Brothers.

“We’ll give them a nice hard contest,” White said.

“If I was in their position, I’d be looking for a fairly hard game because you’ve really got to toughen up mentally for finals footy.”
