Career opportunit­ies

PEOPLE thinking of applying for Work Exposure in Government are running out of time to get entries in. Minister for indigenous Australian­s Ken Wyatt encouraged indigenous students to take part in an opportunit­y to explore a future career in the public sector, with applicatio­ns closing August 23. The WEX program is an opportunit­y for high performing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students in Years 10, 11 and 12 across Australia to learn about careers in the Australian Government. Hop-on school bus

BEING on time for school every day helps students to be successful learners. Supporting students getting to school on time, Tagai State College in Thursday Island now offers a hop-on-hop-off bus service. The bus operates on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. The bus will make its way through the community and children are welcome to get aboard at any point.

Roadworks in Cape

IF you’re heading up the Cape this month, make sure you are aware of roadworks scheduled between August 20 and September 3. Roads include Bamaga Rd, Port Stewart Rd, Portlands Road Rd, Holroyd Rd, Astrea Rd, Marina Plains Rd, Lakefield Rd, Battlecamp Rd, Henwood Rd, Dixie Rd, Fairview Palmervill­e Rd and Whites Creek Rd.

Bridge painting work

PAINTING works have begun on the northern half of the Mission River Bridge, north of Weipa. Rio Tinto will continue painting until December 15. Boat users are advised to avoid the area. People fishing and using the southern landing are requested to “travel slowly” and obey all signage.
