Futsal battle for FNQ crown

By Cameron Tierney, Year 4, St Andrew’s Catholic College

AT the recent FNQ Schools Futsal Titles, schools competed for the prestigious bragging rights of being the best futsal teams in the region.

Our team played in the Under 9s division, where we had to play teams from lots of different schools.

The FNQ School Futsal Titles were held at the Redlynch Central Futsal Stadium.

There were teams from Under 7s all the way to an open division. On the day, our team made the final with Freshwater State School.

They played an excellent game. They scored in the last minute to take the Under 9s trophy.

Our Under 8s boys team were lucky to make the final and were beaten by an excellent team from Good Counsel College from Innisfail.

Our Under 11 boys played the grand final together as two separate teams.

Even though our team didn’t win the Under 9s competition, St Andrew’s won the overall aggregate for best primary school at the tournament.

This was won by Holy Cross last year, so it was nice for the shield to come back to its rightful home.

We had a great time representing our school and doing our team managers and coaches proud. We would like to thank Joanna Kerr and Martin Ainsworth for organising the teams for the primary school’s week of the tournament.

We are also thankful to the parents and teachers who helped coach the teams throughout the week, especially Mr Ainsworth, Rohan Lee and Paige Harrison.

I had lots of fun representing my school at the Futsal titles.

I’m hoping to be able to play again next year.
