On Kiwi criminals
Re: Kiwi criminals being deported from Australia. The NZ High Commissioner whining about the Kiwi crims being kicked out ”Great job by our immigration dept”. Keep up the good work. Keep your low-life crim scum Kiwis. We’ve got enough of our own. Icarus, Atherton NZ doesn’t want its law-breaking citizens back (CP 20/8). Sometimes they’re not very good neighbours. I’d prefer they say: “Sorry, bro, send him here and we’ll make sure he doesn’t bother you again.” Richard, Brinsmead unsealed compared to the PDR. The stretch of PDR just north of Laura was so rough, I lost two fillings. Bazza, Mareeba City signs. As a new citizen I find it hard to find street signs. They are either short in supply or else well hidden. Then if you are fortunate enough to find one you have to pull over to read it. Don’t know how tourists get on? We can do better than this. Pay the Men’s Shed to make some larger and readable. Rod Matthews, Woree Public drunkenness is rife on the Esplanade and families are having to move their children on quickly so they’re not exposed to the foul language and fighting. The council needs to increase the lighting along the northern end to discourage lurking in the shadows and so families feel safe to use the area after dark. Andy, Manunda Why is it “absurd” for President Trump to suggest the US buys Greenland (CP, 20/08)? The US actually bought about half its territory, including Alaska. And look up Greenland on Google Maps - it’s nowhere near Denmark and is geographically part of Canada. Plus, most Greenlanders would jump at the chance of being US citizens and part of the US. Tradie, Colorado Cairns Performing Arts Centre. Built of poured concrete, half-life a thousand years. Coat it in two layers of plywood, half-life? Not long. Looks more like a fortress than a theatre. Norm, Cairns The PM is right to put the spotlight on the public service (CP, 20/08). Our return on investment there is appallingly low. Anyone who doesn’t think the unelected elitists in the bureaucracy don’t fight and block our elected reps or seek to govern from their back offices really needs to watch Yes, Minister and Yes, Prime Minister again. That is exactly how it happens in Canberra. Rajesh, Kanimbla The former president of Kiribati (CP, 20/08) inadvertently highlights the two key features of the climate scam. “Emissions don’t matter” and “give me your money”. Joanne, Manunda There, we’ve reached peak stupid. Victorian police (CP, 20/08) have apologised for doing their jobs under the law. This indicates a serious level of politicisation - which is unacceptable under our Westminster system of governance. Mark, Cairns North
